In collaboration with Hodder & Stoughton, this special edition celebrates the remarkable work of Stephen King with a design inspired by one of his bestselling horror novels.
Carrie by Stephen King has become a timeless classic of contemporary literature. Centered around Carrie White, a tormented teenage girl whose telekinetic powers allow her to exact revenge on those who have wronged her, the novel explores universal themes like adolescence, isolation, and the abuse of power.
We are delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with Hodder & Stoughton for this special release. Founded in London, England, Hodder & Stoughton have been the home of modern publishing for over 150 years.
Today, Hodder & Stoughton continue to innovate publishing by connecting readers with the books that they want. This is perfectly encapsulated in their special release of Stephen King’s bestselling novel Carrie. Released in 1974, Carrie celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024, with Hodder & Stoughton commemorating this literary landmark with a special hardback edition featuring a brand-new introduction to the Carrie universe by the acclaimed writer Margaret Atwood.

Stephen King needs no introduction. He is a literary legend whose dazzling versatility as a writer has cemented him as one of the greatest writers of all time and a pioneer who redefined the horror genre. We are thrilled to be able to work with Stephen King and Hodder & Stoughton on this collaboration to honour Carrie’s legacy in the literary world.
Creativity, individuality, and storytelling are at the heart of both Paperblanks and Hodder & Stoughton, so it is no surprise that we would decide to collaborate with them on this commemorative release. Their dedication to bringing literary visions to life by publishing both household names and undiscovered gems aligns with our ethos at Paperblanks to empower individuality and inspire creativity.
In celebration of Carrie’s 50th anniversary last year, both teams wanted to highlight King’s masterful contributions to the craft of writing, which have established him as one of the greatest writers in modern literature. We are honoured to showcase the lasting power of King’s storytelling with this celebratory journal, offering a way for fans of Carrie to be part of the novel’s legacy.
This collaboration with Hodder & Stoughton was warmly embraced by all involved, especially as we are both from the Hachette UK family! We were inspired by their cover design and knew right away that bringing it to life with Hodder & Stoughton in the Paperblanks world was a perfect match. With the design drawing from the highly symbolic moments from the story, like dripping blood and blazing fire, this special Carrie cover is not only striking but captures the essence of the story’s eerie atmosphere.
Our Graphics team was excited to take inspiration from the jacket for the new Hodder & Stoughton edition, which was originally designed by Alasdair Oliver.
“The original illustration was provided by the publishers, but to truly bring the cover to life, additional details were meticulously incorporated: the blood effect flowing across the image, strategic highlights that enhance the depth, and a debossed frame that adds a tactile element, making the design even more immersive. The result is a chilling yet visually captivating cover that pays homage to the psychological horror at the heart of Carrie.” – Adina Costiuc, Paperblanks Associate Art Director
