This eye-catching pattern comes from the brilliant carpet-making traditions of the Moldavian people. By mixing ideals of beauty and harmony with folk mysticism and mythology, Moldavian craftspeople have elevated everyday carpets to works of spiritual expression.

The earliest surviving Moldavian carpets can be dated to the end of the 18th century. However, archaeological findings and written documents suggest the craft tradition goes back to the 14th- and 15th-century spinning and weaving mills found throughout the Moldavian countryside. These beautiful, handcrafted carpets are cherished and passed down through the generations, keeping this artistic tradition alive even as modern technology takes over.

The pattern reproduced for our Terrene design comes from a contemporary rug manufacturer, Floare Carpet, who craft their beautiful floor coverings in the Moldavian tradition. They originally named this carpet pattern Medina, and it comes from their classical collection of designs. The beautiful organic colouring makes it both unique and uncommon yet comforting and familiar all at once.
