“Meet Me at the Poppy Field” by Mila Marquis
Contemporary
Germany

Prepare to be charmed. For anyone awakened to the possibility of magic we present our Poppy Field cover. Featuring the art of Mila Marquis, an artist living Hamburg, Germany, with her two sons, a dog, two mice and a turtle, this joyful new collection offers little bliss bombs for the spirit. Mila’s art combines sparkling emotion and unashamedly sweet depictions of fairies, fawns and flowers that cajole even the heaviest spirits to soar.

Using a variety of media, including crayons, coloured pencils, gouache and acrylics, Mila creates small dreamscapes inspired by the positive things in life. There is vast delight to be found in even the smallest of her precious and joy-inducing details. When asked if her work is a reflection of her personality, Mila responds that she loves it when she is down and her art brings her back to her “sweetest dreams.” She is particularly happy when illustrations have a little twist in them and offer a glimpse at “the other side of the moon.”

In the piece originally titled “Meet Me at the Poppy Field” and recreated here, Mila has brought to life the story of a little butterfly fairy meeting up with her best friend on a warm, early summer eve.
