The ancient art of filigree is a moving testament to the human drive to delight the eye and spirit. To achieve the gilded and polished motif, a base layer of silver sheets was first die cut, and elaborate grooves were then meticulously etched into its surface. We honour this tradition by using a filigree pattern originally designed and handcrafted in Germany circa 1800 and add just a touch of contemporary colour, so that these delicate journals will look as natural on a well-appointed desk as they would in the hands of an ancient magistrate.
