It has been said of the Mughals that they designed like giants and finished like jewellers. Their decorative inlay designs included intricately carved floral patterns and entwining geometric shapes embedded with finely colored precious and semi-precious stones, which responded with extraordinary subtlety to changing light and weather.

A marvel to the eye, these jewelled designs were created from our Intricate Inlay series. The unique pieces of ornate inlay work portrayed on these journals was captured by French photographer Gérard de George.
