At Paperblanks® we believe that the written word matters, which is why this year in the UK we have sponsored many exciting literary events, including Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award 2010 and John Betjeman Young People's Poetry Competition.
The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is firmly established as one of the key awards for young writers aged between 11 and 17 years. Each year 100 winners (85 Commendations and 15 Overall Winners) are selected by a team of high profile judges, and receive their awards at an annual prize-giving event on National Poetry Day. The Award has been supported by the Foyle Foundation since 2001 - during this time it has trebled its support and enabled the competition to become one of the premier literary awards in the country.
The John Betjeman Young People's Poetry Competition 2010 is open to 11-14 year olds in the British Isles. The prize of £1,000, (£500 to the winner and £500 to the English department of their school), is donated by John Murray (Publishers) Ltd. The prize-giving will take place in late October 2010 at St. Pancras International station. The first prize winner, runner-up and highly commended will also each wins £50 worth of book tokens. Commended winners will receive books. The winners will be notified by September.
