Marking time, by Jodie Hardy
There it stands
Never moving less the wind blows
As a monument to your life
In my mind it stands tall and strong
A visual marker of the time since you passed
Beside i envisage a river
Time flowing, moving us all forward
Though your tree stays
There in the sacred spot
Growing Marking time
Never will I forget
The time we shared
The memories we made
Our childish ways
Broken Summer, by Lucy Cokes
I open my eyes reluctantly; autumn has come too swift.
The long, lazy days of summer are dead.
The world has turned silky-red: the sky, the earth, the trees are blood.
My smiles fall away like the leaves.
Footprints in the dew are both mine and not,
distorted, slumber-filled steps that leave dimples in the frosted grass.
I regret damaging the delicate carpet of morning dew.
Wind tugs at my skirt. Tugs at my hair too.
